Bill Bevan

Bill Bevan is a heritage interpreter, interpretive planner, writer, co-creator, children’s novelist, playwright, and photographer with 35 years’ experience in heritage interpretation and archaeology. He began his career as a tour guide at William Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage in 1986 and founded inHeritage in 2005, working with communities and organisations to develop and share their heritage stories. A Fellow of the Association for Heritage Interpretation, Bill specialises in interpretive planning, content creation, interpretive writing, community participation, co-production, and heritage training. He has also written best-practice guidelines for heritage panels and leaflets, alongside books on the archaeology of Britain and Ireland and children’s novels.

Bill’s recent work includes interpretive planning and community-led guided tours for Redhills, the historic headquarters of the Durham Miners’ Association; community consultation for Kala Sangam in Bradford; and co-produced research, interpretation, and guided tours for Wingfield Station in Derbyshire. He has also project managed, guided, and mentored The Streets of Walkley, a community-led research and interpretation project exploring the Victorian origins of a Sheffield suburb. Bill became a Companion of the Guild through his work as heritage interpreter on the Guild’s Ruskin in Sheffieldproject.
