Haarlem Artspace’s artist development programme for critique, conversation and peer connection.

Cultivator brings artists together to develop their creative practice through discussion, feedback, critical exchange and shared experience. The programme centres on group critiques, offering artists the opportunity to bring new work, emerging ideas, works in progress or questions about their practice to a group of peers. The sessions provide a supportive environment for open, constructive discussion, encouraging artists to test ideas, articulate their thinking, receive different perspectives and explore new directions.

Alongside the group critiques, Cultivator will include artist talks, guest speakers and sessions focused on critical, creative and professional development. These will introduce different approaches to artistic practice and explore the wider contexts in which artists work, from developing ideas and sustaining a creative practice to navigating the professional aspects of an artistic career.

Cultivator will be led by Abbie Canning, an interdisciplinary artist, educator, curator and producer with extensive experience of developing and delivering creative programmes. Her approach combines critical discussion, creative development and practical knowledge, supporting artists to reflect on and develop their practice.

Peer connection is central to Cultivator. The programme creates opportunities for artists at different stages of their career and development to share skills, knowledge, resources and experience, encounter different approaches and perspectives, and build relationships within a wider artistic community.

Ultimately, Cultivator is a space to share work, test ideas, ask questions, give and receive feedback, exchange skills and resources, and develop meaningful connections. Through regular engagement and critical exchange, the programme aims to support artists in developing confident, sustainable and professional creative practices.
