Caroline Hallett

Caroline Hallett’s practice encompasses drawing and painting from life, imagination and memory, focusing on people and places that hold particular personal significance. Although rooted in observation, her work is less concerned with straightforward representation than with the emotional and imaginative response to a particular moment. Light, atmosphere and the familiar can become catalysts for images that move between what is seen, remembered and imagined.

Hallett is interested in the point at which a fleeting experience becomes something more enduring, seeking what she describes as an ‘essential image’ with an emotional resonance beyond the moment itself. Her paintings and drawings bring together observation, memory and the unconscious, allowing people and places to become vessels for personal associations and feelings.
