Kasra Jalilipour
Kasra Jalilipour (b.1995, Esfahan) is an Iranian multidisciplinary artist and writer based in Derbyshire. Working across sculpture, works on paper, moving image and live performance, his practice explores histories of queerness and transness through archival research, speculative fiction and critical fabulation. A significant strand of his work investigates the Qajar era in Iran (1789–1925), searching for fragments of queer and gender-nonconforming lives within incomplete or unreliable historical records. His work also considers how religion, ritual and visual culture intersect with these histories, creating alternative forms of archive through storytelling, imagination and collaboration.
Jalilipour’s research-led installations bring historical material into dialogue with contemporary technologies and forms. In Gut Feelings 2.0 (2025), presented at Grand Union in Birmingham, he created an imagined sacred space inspired by Catholic and Shia reliquaries, bringing together digitally rendered avatars, sculpture, sound and laser-cut metalwork to construct a devotional lineage of queer and trans lives in Qajar-era Iran. His work has been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions at Haarlem Artspace, Wirksworth; Gasleak Mountain, Nottingham; Arcade-Campfa x BayArt, Cardiff; and GAVU, Prague.
